We’d like to extend a “Thank You” to Mr. J.C. Webb of Crowley who took the time to mail an artifact that he came across recently about the first Ville Platte Jaycee Fishing Rodeo & Outboard Boat Races that took place at Chicot State Park on the weekend of July 3-4, 1966! It’s a fine addition to our Vertical Files as it identifies many of the vendors of days gone by such as Starlite Roll-A-Rena, Bruce’s 5 & 10 Cents Store, Lasalle Style Shop, and Evangeline Furniture Company to name a few. It is available at the main library in Ville Platte to anyone who wants to see it in person.

New for the kiddos and the teens in their respective areas at all branches are “Doodle Tablets” also known as Erasable Electronic Painting Pads! These colorful devices will spark imaginations regardless of age while they are in the library. This is our way of showing kids and teens that there is more to libraries then just computers and the internet! Also, in the very near future we will be unveiling our first “The Little Free Giving Library” at the Ville Platte branch. This “free library” has a different purpose than our current “Little Free Library” (donated by Cabot Corporation). It was designed to make reading materials available to anyone at any time for Free. The purpose of this second library, “The Little Free Giving Library”, is to give our patrons an opportunity to engage with ART and creative expression in a number of ways that involve both creating and sharing art. Stay tuned for updates on this new Ville Platte branch project.

The next time you are in Basile, look for a new 4 x 8’ two-sided sign on the corner property of our Future new Basile Branch which is 3026 Stagg St. where it intersects with Ryan St. The building committee recently met with our parish engineer, Ronne Landreneau, and the process has begun! The sign reads: “Future Home of the Evangeline Parish Public Library, Basile Branch. Thank you to our Voters! Your tax dollars at work!” The colors of the sign are Red, White and Blue too!
