What a treat is in store for our patrons this week with two artists with the Evangeline Arts Council offering the craft programs around the parish! Tuesday, July 9th, Jan Veillon and Neva Ardoin will be at the Turkey Creek branch @ 10 am and then the Chataignier branch @ 2pm; Wednesday, July 10th, they will be at the Pine Prairie branch @ 10 am then the Mamou Branch @ 2 pm; Thursday, July 11th, they will be at the Basile branch at 10 am then the Ville Platte main library at 2 pm. Please share this good news!! I’d like to remind the public that we designed our summer programs to offer the same entertainment at each branch each week so if you can’t make one at your usual library then go to another library at a time that works for you. Additionally, if you really like one program then you are welcome to go to the same program that week at each library! The calendars are posted on our website, Facebook page and available for pickup at all libraries. These programs are free to the public and funded with generous donations from these local sponsors: Cabot Corporation, Evangeline Bank & Trust, Paul’s Meat Market, Ardoin’s Funeral Home, Henry Farm Petting Zoo, Lakeview Park & Beach, Bon Aimee’ Insurance & RE Services, Basile State Bank, JD Bank-Ville Platte, Vidrine Ace Hardware, Teet’s Food Store, Kary’s Roux, Hancock Whitney Bank and the Friends of the Library.
Registration for Summer Reading will continue through July at all branches. Calendars are available at the main library and all branch libraries and are posted on our website. Children are invited to log the number of books they read and those who read at least 10 books will receive a prize each time up to 12 times. When our summer reading program ends, we will look at our top readers and they will be presented with a grand prize! Summer Reading programs aren’t just about receiving prizes but, in fact, it helps children to continue developing their reading and social skills. This is a gentle reminder that parents with children from 0 – 17 are now required by a new law, Act 436, to RE-REGISTER their child (children) to allow or disallow them to have access to books, eBooks and the internet.

Two career-focused women swap hospitality jobs and chaos ensues in the jovial latest from Carlson (A Royal Christmas). Ginny Masters, the ambitious manager of a boutique luxury hotel in Seattle, is tired of meeting the last-minute demands of her high-strung boss, Diana. After a mix-up over wedding reception flowers sparks a spat between the two, Ginny informs Diana that she’s signed up on a job-swap website to switch places with the manager of a fishing lodge in Idaho. Jacqueline Potter has worked at her grandfather’s lodge for six years and is sick of its run-down facilities and frustrated by standoffish, “drop-dead gorgeous” fishing guide Ben Tanninger, whom she keeps trying (and failing) to attract. After the switch, things seem idyllic at first—Ginny revels in the town’s quiet, implements improvements to the lodge, and strikes up a flirty friendship-and-then-more with Ben, while Jacqueline sets her sights on Diana’s son, Adrian. But Jacqueline soon realizes she’s in over her head at the hotel, and she and Adrian work to lure Ginny back to big city. Ginny’s budding relationship is put at risk; Jacqueline must decide how hard she’s willing to work for her career; and both women draw on faith to decide where they belong.
And for our teen readers…
Ginny Blackstone never thought she’d spend her summer vacation backpacking across Europe. But that was before she received the first little blue envelope from Aunt Peg.
This letter was different from Peg’s usual letters for two reasons:
1. Peg had been dead for three months.
2. The letter included $1000 cash for a passport and a plane ticket.
Armed with instructions for how to retrieve twelve other letters Peg wrote–twelve letters that tell Ginny where she needs to go and what she needs to do when she gets there–Ginny quickly finds herself swept away in her first real adventure. Traveling from London to Edinburgh to Amsterdam and beyond, Ginny begins to uncover stories from her aunt’s past and discover who Peg really was. But the most surprising thing Ginny learns isn’t about Peg . . . it’s about herself.
Everything about Ginny will change this summer, and it’s all because of the 13 little blue envelopes.
