News
More good news! Tomorrow, Monday, 9/21/20, the main library and all branches will resume their normal operating hours with the exception of our late night on Tuesdays. The main library will be opened Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Friday 8am – 6 pm and Wednesdays from 10 am – 6 pm and Saturday mornings from 8 – Noon. Branch hours are basically 8am – 5 pm however some of the days differ. See operating hours for all branches on our website.
Next bit of good news is that all of the meeting rooms at the main library will be opened again but with limited occupancy and a requirement of wearing masks. So, in our multipurpose room the following groups can begin to meet again! The French Table can meet on Mondays @ 3pm; the Quilters can meet on Thursdays at 1 pm; the Crochet group can meet on Wednesdays at 4 pm; the Mystery Book Club can meet the last Wednesday of the month at 10:30 am and the Evangeline Genealogical & Historical Society can meet on a Saturday morning of their choice @ 9:30 am. We are so happy to be able to invite these groups back to the way it was before COVID!
The Library Board of Control will meet on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at the main library at noon. The public is invited to attend.
And the big news is that the library will indeed host its annual BOOKFEST after all on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 10 am on the grounds of the main library! I will be reaching out to authors, vendors, and entertainers to make this event an opportunity for our parish patrons to share their talents! Details will follow in the next few At the Library articles. Please share this news with any crafters, cooks, and clubs that would like to participate. We have a form to be filled out so we can plan accordingly. Social distancing and mask wearing will be included in the planning.
With school children either returning to their classrooms or taking classes online from home, we’d like to encourage parents to visit our website link for tutoring assistance through Homework Louisiana. The benefits of this FREE resource are incredible. The link is located at the bottom of our webpage, www.evangelinelibrary.org. If you need a direct link then go to http://homeworkla.org.
The staff genuinely appreciates the never-ending understanding, patience and support it continues to receive from all patrons! Please get updates at evangelinelibrary.org or on our Facebook page and continue to request books and other materials by phone or by email at evangeline_parish@yahoo.com. Good news! Phase 3 is allowing the main library to begin opening to the public again on Saturday mornings from 8 – Noon on September 19th! We sure look forward to being opened on a weekend day to help the displaced families and our patrons. Also, our Chataignier branch will reopen for their regular hours this Tuesday, 9/15/20. They will resume their normal hours which are Tuesdays & Thursdays from 8 – 5 and Wednesdays 10 – 5 pm. Please share this good news. UPDATE: The Turkey Creek Branch opening will be delayed because of access issues due to unresolved Hurricane damages in the park that we just learned about! We will keep the public updated.
A few new fiction and non-fiction books that just arrived:
Books: “The Book Charmer” by Karen Hawkins, “Plaque of Corruption-Restoring Faith in the Promise of Science” by Dr. Judy Mikovits & Kent Heckenlively, JD, “Tiny Habits-The Small Changes that Change Everything!” by BJ Fogg, PHD., “Live Free or Die-America(and the World) On the Brink” by Sean Hannity.
The library is now an official Keeper of Memories! We are offering the public the opportunity to “Leave a Memory” about anything that they’d like others to remember about them, their loved ones, a life event, etc. on a form that can be picked up at the main library or at a branch near you. Nicknames are also being collected since they are so unique to our Parish. The card catalog can be viewed at the main library in Ville Platte, but we want to collect memories from patrons around the parish and simply store them there. Additionally, if writing is uncomfortable, one can send in a photo with a short bio of a person, pet, or event. In fact, some folks have already sent in their old library cards because they wanted to be remembered as long-time library patrons. See below a few of the cards already on file. Please call the main library for more information at 337-363-1369.
