It’s the Christmas season and we are gearing up for lots of fun at the main library and at all of our branch libraries around the parish. There are so many programs going on at each library that we encourage you to visit the Facebook page of your favorite library.

For the next few weeks, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), will be collecting unwrapped toys for children of all ages at the main library in Ville Platte.  This is a wonderful opportunity to involve families in supporting children less fortunate by making the donation of a Christmas gift.  Please consider dropping off a gift or two.  Monday, December 5th, our Brilliant Butterflies will host a Kids Painting program @ 4 pm in the multiprupose room of the main library.  Then on Tuesday, December 13th at 11:30 am, Miss Ville Platte, Anna Katherine Steckler, is hosting a unique program called “Tribute to Rodrigue: Louisiana Art Movement and Cajun Culture” which will be delivered by her father, Gary Steckler. Various pieces of art will be on display in the multipurpose room of the main library and one piece will be a door prize for a lucky participant. Light refreshments will also be offered. Please share the information about this unique opportunity.  Following this program at 1 pm, you are welcomed to sit in on our weekly French program, “Let’s Talk Creole French – Coffee and Conversation”! You will be entertained and learn a new word or phrase too! These opportunities are free and open to the public. On December 14th @ 4pm, Miss Ville Platte, Anna Katherine Steckler, will once again be our special host as a “Bingo Caller” for a children’s program called “Christmas Birthday Bingo”! Then on Monday, December 19th, Santa will be at the library @ 1 pm to greet the little boys and girls! Super photo opportunity for sure!  Santa will also be at our branch libraries around the parish at various times, so again, please visit our Facebook pages for dates and times.

You can always call the main library @ 337-363-1369 or send an email to [email protected] for more information.  Visit our main library and branch library Facebook pages or www.evangelinelibrary.org for all of the weekly, monthly and upcoming events and never forget that libraries do change lives…. even in the cloud! We sure had a tough time making the decision to cancel our 2022 Library Fest but for the safety of our traveling and local authors, vendors, community partners and, of course, our patrons, it was the most prudent thing to do with a freezing weather forecast. We look forward to planning our 2023 Fest at another time of the year. Thanks to all who helped us promote this fun manner of giving “thanks” to our library patrons and the residents of Evangeline Parish for their support of the library system throughout the parish!

We had to make a hard decision on behalf of our traveling participants and our loyal patrons to cancel due to the anticipated rainy and cold weather conditions and a few vendors who called to cancel for the same reason. We hope to see all of you next year! If you have any question, please don’t hesitate to call Suzy Lemoine or Lakeishia Ford at 337-363-1369.
