The Library Board of Control and staff extend very heartfelt and sincere prayers of support to our fellow staff members and all patrons who have been affected by this rampant virus. We are in a strange period and are having to make challenging decisions for the safety of all, but we trust that out patrons understand.

The main library in Ville Platte will remain closed until this Thursday to complete the 10-day quarantine and deep cleaning that helps to protect our patrons. We will try to re-open on Friday, August 27, 2021, however, due to a shortage in staffing, that re-opening could be delayed. The Turkey Creek branch library will remain closed this week for the same reasons. At this point in time, the Basile, Chataignier, Mamou and Pine Prairie branches will remain open for their regular operating hours and MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING WILL BE REQUIRED. These branches have computers, fax machines and countless other resources and entertainment products that a short drive can provide. The WIFI is free and available even after hours around the library buildings. August is a FINE FREE MONTH so no worries about returning your items on time. Remember that we have an incredible number of books, audio books and movies available that can be accessed through Overdrive/Libby and Flipster (magazine link) on a variety of electronic devices. See our webpage for a direct link.

One more unfortunate decision that we recently made was to CANCEL our annual Library Fest which was slated for November 13th. We sure are looking forward to a more promising 2022!

For more information and updates, please call 363-1369, the branch nearest you, or visit our Facebook page or website Thank you for supporting your library; libraries change lives…. even in the Cloud!

The library Board of Directors and staff are doing all that we can to keep our patrons safe during this resurgence of COVID in our Parish. We extend very heartfelt expressions of sympathy to those patrons that we recently lost and pray for those who are facing the awful challenges presented by this virus. Please mask up and sanitize your hands often. Two reminders: (1) August is a FINE FREE month for the library system so no worries about late fines even with the main library, Chataignier and Turkey branches being closed last week for a deep cleaning to prevent any possible exposure of the virus to our patrons, and (2) FREE WIFI is available in the parking areas around the library buildings. We do anticipate reopening next Monday, 8/16/21. Please check our webpage and Facebook page often for updatesMASK WILL CONTINUE TO BE REQUIRED.

Thank you to those who recently dropped off donations of used books, magazines, DVD’s, etc. They will be quarantined and disinfected before being put on the Friends of the Library sale shelf. There are so many folks who are homeschooling and kids doing virtual learning that we would like to make items that can be owned and used at home more available at bargain prices! Check out the Friends section the next time you are in your library.

A message from your library Director and staff: To keep our patrons safe from any possible exposure to the new COVID variant, the library is having to make the hard decision to close the Main library and two branches: Chataignier and Turkey Creek for one week beginning tomorrow, 8/7/21. In an abundance of caution, the main library and all branches will require mask to be worn when inside of the library for whatever reasons one is at the library.  Please visit our webpage ( and Facebook page often for updatesAll programs at the main library and the branches are cancelled until further notice. Please check our webpage or Facebook page often for updates.
If you can’t visit the library, remember to use our Flipster app for a variety of magazines that can be downloaded and enjoyed on a variety of devices. On our webpage, click on the magazine of your choice from the rotating covers. From the web, go to and sign in with your library card. Call any library for assistance.

The following branches are now drop-off points for any EPAR donations that the public or non-profits would like to make: Mamou, Pine Prairie & Turkey Creek.
