Mr. Bill Guidry was police jury president and a member of the library board for several years. He was a strong supporter of the library and a good friend to all of us at the main library and the branches. His backgrounds in law enforcement, environmental science, and human resource management helped the library make significant improvements in branch security, main library mold remediation, and system personnel policies. His support after hurricanes Katrina and Rita was outstanding, and he was also instrumental in the building of the Turkey Creek branch library, the remodeling of the Mamou and Basile branches, and the expansion of the Pine Prairie branch. Mr. Bill negotiated for the purchase of land for the future main library and helped the library acquire a nearly new van for deliveries. He helped us all here in so many ways. The library board and library staff send their deepest sympathy to his widow Mona and his children, grandchildren, and other family members.
Mr. Bill’s obituary and funeral arrangements are posted on the Laville Funeral Home website.
The Main Library (Ville Platte) and all branch libraries will be closed Tuesday, Feb. 21st for Mardi Gras. In addition, the Mamou Branch Library will be closed Monday Feb. 20th.
We wish everybody a safe and happy Mardi Gras!
The Friends of the Library will meet Tuesday, Feb. 7th at 6 p.m. at the main library (Ville Platte). Everybody is welcome; please come and bring a friend.
Thank you for your patience during yesterday’s high water situation. Although the library is back to its regular operating hours at all branches, continued rains today and tomorrow may lead to more flooding and possible closures if roads become blocked. Any early closures, etc. will be announced on KVPI.
The announcement yesterday said “Tuesday” in error, not “Wednesday.” We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
The main library (Ville Platte) and the Mamou and Basile and Turkey Creek branches will close at 4 pm today due to the flooded roads in Evangeline Parish. Chataignier Branch, which normally opens at 2, will not open today. Pine Prairie Branch will close at its regular Tuesday time (3 pm).
We apologize for the inconvenience.
