Summer Reading continues with Manager’s Choice programs as follows: Tues. the 10th at 10 a.m. in Turkey Creek and 2 and 6 p.m. in Ville Platte; Wed. the 11th at 10 a.m. in Pine Prairie and 2 p.m. at the Mamou Teen Center; and Thurs. the 12th at 10 a.m. in Basile and 3 p.m. at the Chataignier Community Center.  All events are free.

The Friends of the Library will meet Tues. July 10th at 6 p.m. at the main library (242 W. Main St., Ville Platte).  Come join the Friends and learn more about the new library plans and the Friends’ developing Indiegogo campaign to raise funds to furnish the children’s area at the new facility.  We will start planning for a special event for the groundbreaking in August, too!

The Main Library and all branches will be closed Wednesday for the Fourth of July.  We wish everybody a very happy, safe, and meaningful holiday.

Special thanks to Ville Platte Mayor Jennifer Vidrine and the City of Ville Platte workers for placing a new American flag for the main library.  Additional thanks to the Woodmen of the World for donating the flag.  Now the library looks ready to celebrate the 4th of July!

The Library Board of Control will hold a special meeting Tuesday July 3rd at 1:30 p.m. at the Main Library (242 W. Main St., Ville Platte).  The meeting is open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.

The agenda for the meeting is as follows:

1) To receive reports on the bid and financing results for the new main library construction project and if satisfactory to recommend contract award to the police jury.

2) To examine estimates for the Pine Prairie Branch fencing project and select a vendor for the project, contingent on resolution of  boundary and fence placement issues with the library’s neighbor and the board’s legal advisor.

3) To consider results from Basile Branch air quality tests following an incident Thursday June 28th, and determine when to reopen the branch to the public.

 

Tammy and Frank Chaisson, Balloon Twisters and Face Painters, perform at all the library locations this week!  On Tuesday June 26th they will be at Turkey Creek at 10 a.m. and Ville Platte at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.; on Wed. the 27th at Pine Prairie at 10 a.m. and the Mamou Teen Center at 2 p.m.; and Thurs. the 28th at Basile at 10 a.m. and Chataignier Village Hall at 3 p.m.  All performances are FREE to the public and are funded in part through Decentralized Arts Funding as administered by the Acadiana Center for the Arts.  Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
