The Library mourns the death of Janice “Jan” Smith, who directed the Evangeline Parish Library for five years during the 1990’s and was instrumental in the founding of the Chataignier Branch. She died Monday Dec. 10 at the age of 67. Arrangements are through Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas, and her obituary is available on their webpage.
The Library Board and staff extend their deepest sympathy to Jan’s family and friends.
Return any item in good condition from Dec. 15, 2012, through Jan. 15, 2013, and have all fines on THAT ITEM waived. We also will be offering half off discounts on any existing fines or lost/damaged book charges IF THE BALANCE IS PAID IN FULL AT THE TIME THE DISCOUNT IS APPLIED.
This “Fine Free month” is the library’s thank you to all its patrons for their support throughout the year.

Staff from the main library and all five branch libraries will be attending a staff workshop at the main library on Wed. Dec. 5th. The main library and all branches will be closed to the public until 1 p.m.
The Library Board of Control will meet Thursday Nov. 29th at 1 p.m. at the Main Library (242 W. Main St., Ville Platte). The meeting is open to the public, and public attendance and comments are encouraged. Refreshments will be served.
An agenda for the meeting will be posted at the main library no later than Tuesday Nov. 27th.
We are closed for Thanksgiving holidays Thursday Nov. 22nd through Sunday, Nov. 25th. The Main Library and all branches will reopen at their regular times next week.
