The Library Board of Control voted August a “fine forgiveness” month. Here’s how it works:
- Any item returned in GOOD condition during August will have all FINES waived on it. (Note that certain fees may still apply for Interlibrary Loan items or DVDs.)
- Fines on any item that was returned prior to August may be reduced (not eliminated) if the balance due on the fines for the item is paid in full in one payment during August. The amount of reduction will be determined by the branch manager or the circulation manager. (Again, please note that certain fees may still apply for Interlibrary Loan items or DVDs).
- Please note that replacement costs, etc. for lost or damaged items will still apply.

Families: This is a great time to make sure that all library books from the summer have been returned.
This is also a great time to make sure your library card is in good standing for use during the school year.
Congratulations to Madison Pelican of Basile. Madison read the most books in the age 8 to 16 range during Summer Reading. She will be awarded her special prize at the main library on Thursday July 25th at 2 p.m. Andrew Dugas, Area Operations Manager for CenturyLink, will present the prize to Madison.
CenturyLink is also sponsoring refreshments for the award ceremony. Everybody is welcome to come and enjoy cake and punch. CenturyLink will also have information available on its low-cost, high-speed internet options for qualifying families.
Special thanks to noted author John Lafleur II for being the Genealogical and Historical Society’s guest speaker for Saturday’s meeting.
Also, special thanks to Friends of the Library and its president Paula Lafleur for providing meeting attendees with Friends Book Lovers calendars and information about the Friends.
The Genealogical and Historical Society will meet Saturday July 20th at the Main Library at 9:30 a.m. Everybody is welcome: you do not have to be an experienced researcher to join. Come learn more about the group, hear fascinating guest speakers, and share family information and research ideas. Refreshments will be served.
CenturyLink will award a special prize to ONE reader, age 8 through 16, who reads the most books in the library’s summer program this year. Readers at all of the six library facilities are eligible for this award. In the event of a tie, the winner will be selected by a drawing.
To be eligible, the reading logs MUST be turned in by the deadline. For Turkey Creek Summer Readers, the deadline is before close of business Thursday July 18th. For all other Evangeline Parish Summer Readers, the deadline is before close of business Friday July 19th. Reading logs must be turned in at the location where the participant registered for the Summer Reading program.
