The libraries will reopen Thursday August 31st.
The Evangeline Parish Library system (main library and all branch libraries) is closed for Harvey and will remain closed on Wednesday, Aug. 30th.
The main library and all branches will close at 11:45 am today Monday August 28th, and will remain closed all day Tuesday. This is in accordance with the Evangeline Parish School System closure for Hurricane Harvey.
WHENEVER THE EVANGELINE PARISH PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED EARLY, OPEN LATE, OR REMAIN CLOSED DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS, THE MAIN LIBRARY AND ALL BRANCHES WILL BE CLOSED ALSO. This is a practice of longstanding here in the parish.
1) Any days that we would be open this week we will not stay open past 5 p.m. Again, if the school system has closed for the day, we will be closed also for the entire day.
2) All special programming throughout the library system for the week of Aug. 28th through Sept. 1st is cancelled. Please note that Saturday main library hours for this week were already cancelled due to the Labor Day weekend.
3) Special programming includes such items as “Fun with Spanish” and the “Mystery Book Club” at the main library. ALL special programming for the week is cancelled.
4) The Basile Branch has been given discretion to close whenever its staff determines it to be necessary during this weather event. Its location is putting it more in the path of severe weather at this time. Please call the Basile Branch before planning a trip to it later this week. Its number is 432-6794. If you do not get through, the Branch manager’s cell phone is 230-9218. All branches may be affected by flooding, etc. The library will try to keep you informed via KVPI, our website evangelinelibrary.org, and Facebook.
5) There will be NO book deliveries to the branches this week.
Again, please keep in mind that if the Evangeline Parish School Board closes the school system for weather or road conditions, then ALL of the Evangeline Parish Library system will be closed also. This is a practice of longstanding here in the parish.
Since closures can be announced suddenly due to changing conditions, NO person, regardless of age, should be left in a library alone unless they can safely vacate the building and get themselves to another safe location on their own. This is true at all times, since we can have power outages, water line breakages, smoke/fire alarm in building incidents, etc. Children under 10 must never be in the libraries without an adult (not an older child), but nobody should ever be left for an extended time if he or she cannot leave the building and grounds safely on their own.
