We will have a late opening on Wednesday, August 12th for a staff meeting so the main library and Basile, Mamou and Pine Prairie branches will open at 1 pm. Additionally, we are planning a retirement event for our long time Pine Prairie branch manager Pam Guillory. The public is invited to her library on Friday, August 28, 2020 from 8am until closing (1111Walnut St., Pine Prairie). Please share this invitation.
Thank you to State Farm and Eric Gil for a recent donation that he made to assist the library in purchasing library books and products that will lift spirits and educate our young all around the parish! Keep an eye out for the list next week!
We have good news about extended hours for internet access in areas near the main library and all library branches (whether they are opened or closed). Our new extended internet hours to serve the needs of the public in these challenging times are 7 am to 10 pm. You do not have to have an active library card to use the internet in these areas. Do be mindful that security is set up for 24-hour surveillance at the main library and all branches.
The library is now an official Keeper of Memories! We are offering the public the opportunity to “Leave a Memory” about anything that they’d like others to remember about them, their loved ones, a life event, etc. on a form that can be picked up at the main library or at a branch near you. Nicknames are also being collected since they are so unique to our Parish. The card catalog can be viewed at the main library in Ville Platte, but we want to collect memories from patrons around the parish and simply store them there. Additionally, if writing is uncomfortable, one can send in a photo with a short bio of a person, pet, or event. In fact, some folks have already sent in their old library cards because they wanted to be remembered as long-time library patrons. See below a few of the cards already on file. Please call the main library for more information at 337-363-1369.
The Census is still going strong. If you would like to complete your Census filing online, we would be happy to help you get to the website. Or, if you need more information, we have it. It is a truly short and simple form. Your participation is important and necessary.
