At its May 15th Library Board of Control meeting, the Board selected Margaret (“Margie”) Mealer to be the next library director.  Ms. Mealer will begin by assisting the current director, Mary Foster-Galasso, in June and will gradually assume full responsibility by the end of July.  (Mary retires August 4th.)  Margie’s first day with the library is June 4th.  She looks forward to going to each branch and meeting library patrons during the first weeks of Summer Reading.  Margie is currently head of children’s services for the Lincoln Parish Library (Ruston), a position she has held for the past three years.  From 1999 to 2015 she was with the Rapides Parish Library, most recently (April 2009 to June 2015) as Branch Manager for the Boyce Branch Library.

Margie has the following degrees: associate’s degree in English (LSUA 2006), bachelor’s degree in general studies with a concentration in business (LSUA 2010), and master’s of Library and Information Science (LSU 2014).  Originally from New Jersey, Margie is also a military spouse who lived and raised her family in many places before her husband retired from the military.  She has sound management and library experience, a love of public libraries, and dedication to providing quality library service to everyone.
