Happy, happy Mother’s Day wishes from the staff and library board members!Here’s another big “thank you” to our newest summer program reading incentive sponsors: JD Bank and Reed’s Pharmacy of Mamou! Your support is an acknowledgement of the importance of literacy and lifelong learning opportunities that are accessible to all through our public library system.
We welcome our new director, Dr. William “Will” Holmes! His first official day is Monday, May 9, 2022. He will conduct his first Library Board meeting this Thursday, May 12th at noon in the multipurpose room of the main library in Ville Platte. The agenda is posted. He has an “open door” policy and is looking forward to meeting the library patrons all over the parish!
What’s going on this week at main and all branches is featured on the Facebook pages of the main library and each branch except for the Turkey Creek Branch – but it will be live soon! Here are a few highlights: The Pine Prairie Branch offers FREE Bingo every Thursday @ 9 am. Also, now on Fridays @ 9:30 am you can participate in a FREE “Cajun French Course” at the Pine Prairie branch. This free programwill run from April through June and covers conversational skills, basic grammar, pronunciation & cultural information. In Ville Platte, the new French table, “Allons Parle en François” organized by staff member Patricia Harris meets on Tuesdays @ 1 pm and is designed for folks who enjoy speaking the language and for anyone who wants to just listen in. She will also be posting on Facebook a “French Word of the Day” on Mondays for discussion on Tuesdays.
NEW: “Throwback Thursdays” is our way of remembering our rich history with postings on our Facebook and web pages by Jane Vidrine and Tina Messer. Keep an eye out for many more interesting memory posts! Chataignier branch Library is sponsoring a coloring contest as a preview of what’s in store when summer reading kicks off in June. The Mamou branch library changed its “Coffee with Friends” time to every Monday at 9am.
May 9th, the main library will host the Brilliant Butterfly Kids club at 4 pm to make a special craft!
Kiddos to yet another local author, Jessica Deen Norris! The first book in “The Dragon Guardian Chronicles, Firesight” is going to fly off the shelves! Jessica graciously signed the books that we purchased for the public. They will be ready to be checked out later this week!You can own your own copy by visiting Tincy’s Corner on Magnolia St., Congratulations, Jessica!
Early Notice: June 4th is our BIG KICK-OFF EVENT for Summer Reading! The KABUKI DANCERS will be at the main library in Ville Platte to perform their STREET DANCING skills with a program called “BREAKIN IT DOWN: The Origins of Hip-Hop Dance”! This event is FREE and opened to the public. Please share with the teens especially! May 31st is the first day to register for Summer Reading all around the parish.
