Library Fest on Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 9 am to 1 pm on the grounds of the main library in Ville Platte is where you’ll meet our unique and diverse VENDORS, Here’s a “hint” of what they’ll be selling: Adrienne Griffith (Bath Bombs), Pat Fontenot (Quilt & Bears, Artist Toni Lowrey (Crocheted & Acrylic art items), Kayra Guillory (Wrist Jewelry), Charles Fontenot (Art pieces), Brecky Thomas (Mosaic Art), Roxanne Thomas (Best Suits), Bob Lawrence (Yard Art), Betsy Pitre (Baskets), Brandy Israel (Tumblers), Toni Limogis (Jewelry), Morgan Blanchet (Embroidery), Katelyn Beaubouef (Greeting Cards & Bookmarks),  AND THAT’S A WRAP for our Vendors as we do not have any spaces left this year. If you missed the sign-up deadline, please come to the festival anyway and be a part of our 2024 festival! Next week we will feature our Entertainment! If you have not discovered the new “Little Free Craft Library” located near the front door of the main library in Ville Platte, please drop by with your child or children to pick up crafts that can be worked on at home and shared with family. This opportunity was developed by our staff member, Sandra Veillon, to keep the spirit of “making art” alive for kids even when the library is closed. We now have an area set aside to display any of the crafts that are created too! See Ms. Sandra for details. It is a compliment to the “Litle Free Book Library” located under the big oak tree that donated by Cabot Corporation.

We are so excited to share the unique and diverse line up of our featured authors who you can meet at our annual Library Fest on Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 9 am to 1 pm on the grounds of the main library in Ville Platte! Dr. Elista Istre, Veni Harlan, Kristal Ben, Patricia Williams, C.P. Landry, Michael Wynne, Christopher Fontenot, Edward Gauthier, Debby Lawson, Dixie Poche, Rhonda B. LeJeune, Latonya Leary, Julie Beth Davis, Warren and Mary Perrin, Beverly Fuselier, and Pamela Ardoin Funderburk. Their books or information about their books will be on display next week until the weekend of the Festival and are available for check-out if you would like to get familiar with their work. One new feature this year will be the opportunity to experience the interesting and engaging scholarly presentation of “Evangeline, the Myth and the Maiden” by Dr. Elista Istre in the Multipurpose Room at 10 am. Please don’t miss this opportunity! Before and after her presentation in the Multipurpose Room, Antique Appraiser Michael Wynne will be available to appraise your antiques for $3.00 per item. Then at 1 pm, join our “Tuesday French and Coffee” hour where the conversations are lively, and the coffee is always hot! Then, later that same day at 4 pm, we will host a Family Bingo that is well attended so come early!  

Wednesday, April 19th, the Mystery Book Club will meet at 10:30 to discuss their latest book and choose another for May. New members are always welcome!

Easter is right around the corner! The Library Board of Control and staff wish everyone a memorable and safe weekend celebration! Here is an early closure note: The main library and all branches will be closed on Friday, April 7th and 8th. All will reopen on Monday, April 10th.

Check the Facebook page of your favorite library to see what’s going on for Easter! At the main library in Ville Platte you can have a Photo with the Easter Bunny taken then enjoy a Kid’s Painting activity on Wednesday, April 5th at 4 pm.

Our Computer Tutor program resumes on April 11th at the following locations: Ville Platte Main @ 9 am; Turkey Creek Branch @ 10:30 am; Pine Prairie Branch @ 12 noon; Mamou Branch @ 1:30 pm; Basile Branch @ 3 pm and Chataignier Branch @ 4:30 pm

Artist Gene “Swabby” Soileau

Another new opportunity happening at the main library is our new “Artist of the Month” program. During the month of April we will be displaying the works of Gene “Swabby” Soileau. Swabby is best known lately as a DJ for KVPI but he is also an artist at heart! He started taking lessons with Ms. Gertie Mayeaux in 2009 and hasn’t let up yet! Come by the library to see some of his work on canvas that we proudly display. We want to showcase the many talented artist in our parish and give them visibility and the opportunity to sell their art. We also have on display some of the original artwork of “Billie” Bowen & Clamie Landreneau donated recently by Carol Neil Landreneau. We have so much talent in Evangeline Parish.  Drop by soon to see it for yourself!
