The Friends of the Library will meet at 6 p.m. at the Main Library to plan for the annual Book Sale and to learn about the plans for the new library. Everybody is welcome.
The State Bond Commission has given approval for the Police Jury to borrow up to 1.5 million on the Library’s behalf, for construction of the new main library. This is NOT a grant: The Library will repay the bonds out of proceeds from its tax revenues.
The Library Board of Control thanks bond counsel Sen. Eric Lafleur, the Evangeline Parish Police Jury, and parish engineer Ronnie Landreneau for all their efforts to make this possible.
The Main Library and all branches will be closed Monday Sept. 5th for Labor Day. The Main Library will be open as usual on Sat. Sept. 3rd from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
At its regularly scheduled meeting yesterday, Mon. Aug. 29th, the Library Board of Control did the following:
- Heard an update from parish engineer Ronnie Landreneau on the new main library project. He is in the process of selecting an architect for the project.
- Planned for a Board and staff building committee, to work with the parish engineer and the architect.
- Revised the travel, personnel, and patron behavior policies. The revised policies will be distributed to all library branches as soon as possible.
- Had first review for proposed changes to the Board bylaws. These will be on the agenda for vote at the next meeting.
- Voted to decline participation in the BTOP Laptop project, due to the time schedule and requirements for the new main library project.
For further information about any of these matters, please contact Mary at the main library, 363-1369.
The Library will be closed Labor Day, Monday Sept. 5th.
