SPECIAL FINE FREE MONTH BEGINS MAY 28th.   As a way to support our parish communities in the wake of the recent tornado damage, we are offering a Fine Free Month that will begin on May 28th and run through June 28th.  Overdue fees will be waived and existing fines will be cut in half if the fine is attended to. Contact us if you have any questions.

Early registration for Summer Reading begins Tuesday, May 28th at the Main library and all branches around the parish. The theme this year is A Universe of Stories so readers will have an opportunity to collect space related prizes!

We send out a “big thank you” to ALL of our Summer Reading sponsors! Cabot Corporation, Bon Aimee’ Insurance & Real Estate Services, Basile State Bank, Vidrine’s Ace Hardware, Mercy Regional Medical Center and  Friends of the Library. They are promoted on our calendars, flyers, radio programs and more!

 Our “Last Tuesday-of-the-Month Family Movie Night” is also Tuesday, May 28th @ 5:45 until 7:30pm. This is a free program for families. We will be showing a PG rated movie called  Lilo & Stich.

 The Mystery Book Club will meet on Wednesday, May 29th at 10:30 to discuss their book and choose a new one.  New members are always welcomed.

Our Monday French program is back and has a new name Something French! Staff member Irene Nichols is conducting her own unique program @ 3:30 pm in the Children’s Room. The public is invited to join in! And, new this week we will also be offering an opportunity for adults who would like to “converse in French” to join Mrs. Jackie Miller at 3:30 pm for an Allons parler en français experience! The public is invited.  

  This week there will be NO Wednesday pre-teen club meeting, Just Craftin Around, or our Thursday Tech Help. All programs resume next week.                                                                

  Early Notices:  Our first grant-funded summer reading performer is Uncle Wayne’s Porta Puppet Show! On Tuesday, June 4th at 10 am, he will be at the Turkey Creek Branch then at 2 & 6 pm he will be at Ville Platte Main. On Wednesday, June 5that 10 am, he will be at the Pine Prairie Branch then at 2 pm he will be at the Mamou Branch Library. On Thursday, June 6th at 10 am, he will be at Basile Branch Library the  at 2 pm he will be at our new branch library in Chataignier. These performers are supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the Acadiana Center for the Arts.      

We’ve heard from many adults who speak local French that they would like to have a place to gather to speak French while visiting. So, we are offering an opportunity for folks to join Mrs. Jackie Miller at 3:30 pm on Monday afternoons in the Multipurpose Room at the Main library in Ville Platte for an Allons parler en français experience! Hope to see you on June 3rd!

The Book Bunch Club is a Mamou school club made up of 12 – 15 year olds who would like to continuing meeting every other Tuesday to continue sharing their love of books! Their next meeting is going to be Tuesday, May 28th. Contact Angie Henry, Branch Manager, for details. (337-468-5750)
