We appreciate your continued patience and understanding during this strange re-opening effort. We do not have an end date for Phase 1, but we will keep you posted through our webpage (evangelinelibrary.org) , Facebook page, newspaper articles and the radio.

We are getting closer to our reopening. Please hang in there with us! You will see more activity at the main library by our director and a few staff members who are beginning the process planning the reopening which will include sanitizing all returned books and other items and, of course, all surfaces for the utmost protection of our valued patrons and staff when we do reopen.  This is a serious and time-consuming procedure so we ask for your understanding and patience. The branch managers are also doing the same. I mention this because some folks are asking if we are opened because they see cars at the library. We will keep you posted. In the meantime, we are NOT accepting any donations and it is OK to not return any books. Remember, this is a FINE FREE period. I hope some of you had a chance to experience the Book Walk set up on the grounds of the main library! Tina Davis switched it out for a new book for you to discover. Parents are encouraged to walk and read the “Book” with their children for a unique experience during this unsettling time. While you are there remember to our Little Free Library located on the picnic table in front of the main library in Ville Platte. We change out the books often. Visit our Facebook page to listen to new stories read by a few if of our staff members too! We know that it is difficult for a lot of folks to use online services but remember that you can continue checking out items (books, movies, audiobooks, etc.) using your regular library card. Our Overdrive/Libby app will allow you to get a free VIRTUAL LIBRARY CARD by using your CELL PHONE number. Please see instructions on our webpage @ www.evangelinelibrary.org or www.lsw.overdrive.com to learn more. Email me with any concerns at [email protected]. Also, do not worry late fees! Our Fine Free period will continue until May 16thand may be extended if this situation does not improve.

Thank you for your continued understanding and patience. I can tell you that we are now planning how we can re-open in the near future. Our greatest concern is for the safety of our patrons who WE MISS VERY MUCH! We will keep you posted.  Never forget that libraries do change lives… even through the Cloud! 337-363-1369.
