Summer Reading! On Monday, June 15th, the main library and ALL branches will open with 50% in-library use capacity and begin to make this most unusual summer reading time FUN for the kids by offering “Welcome Back Goodie Bags” filled with lots of reading incentives to encourage kids of all ages to continue reading. The only requirement to receive the “goodie bag” is that at least two books are checked out. Each bag will also have an opportunity for kids to win one additional prize if they use the “Imagine Your Story” form to write their COVID 19 story and return it to the library with their name and phone number! The main library and all branches will also resume their regular opening hours, however, all will be closing at 5 pm and there will be NO Saturday openings at the main library in Ville Platte until after July 11th.
Here are a few new titles that you may want to check out. Also, the adult display of summer reading suggestions at the main library is awesome! Fiction: “Hello Summer” by Mary Kay Andres and “Blindside” by James Patterso. Non-Fiction: “Purple & Gold: How the 2019 LSU Tigers Dominated College Football to Win a National Championship” by the Advocate. Large Print Westerns: “Apache Lament” by Patrick Dearen. Kids: “Dude” by Aaron Reynolds.

The staff truly appreciates the never-ending understanding, patience and support from its patrons! To our valued patrons from around the parish, we have just entered Phase 2 of our COVID19 re-opening plan. But, unfortunately, we have had to cancel our usual Summer Reading Program plans around the parish. However, we are still going to make Summer Reading fun for the kids! On June 15th, with only a 50% capacity opening, we will begin handing out “Welcome Back Goodie Bags” with lots of reading incentives to encourage kids of all ages to continue reading or listening to books or have someone read to them all summer long.  I will share details in my next article after our Manager’s meeting this Wednesday, 6/10/20. Currently we still have two more weeks of no contact, curbside services along with fax and copy services at VILLE PLATTE MAIN, BASILE, MAMOU, & PINE PRAIRIE (still excludes Chataignier & Turkey Creek Branches).
