With the permission of the police department, we are allowing access to the library during Ville Platte’s lockdown–the result of an incident in progress thereby.  If the door is locked and you need to get in, please call 363-1369 and somebody will promptly assist you.  Please use caution getting to the library and be aware that some streets nearby are blocked.  Activity in the immediate vicinity of the library seems normal, but we are keeping the doors locked per police instructions.

If you can postpone your trip for a few hours, that would be best.  We will post an announcement as soon as the lockdown is over.

In the meantime, the 2 p.m. children’s program is in progress, and the program for 6 p.m. tonight is still planned to go on as scheduled.  If that has to be changed, we will post an announcement here and also notify the public through KVPI.

Please call us at 363-1369 if you have any questions about library operations today.  The branches are not affected by the lockdown, only the main library (242 W. Main St., Ville Platte).

The program today at 2 p.m. in the Main Library is in progress, and everybody seems to be having a great time.  It is full.  Patrons are welcome to come to the 6 p.m. program tonight.  The ventriloquist Donna Lavergne is doing a terrific job.

Donna will perform tomorrow at 10 a.m. in Pine Prairie and 2 p.m. in Mamou (Teen Center).  She will perform Thurs. at 10 a.m. in Basile and 3 p.m. in Chataignier (Community Center).  All performances are FREE to the public and are sponsored through a grant from Louisiana Decentralized Arts Funding, as administered by the Acadiana Center for the Arts.

For information about specific performances, please check our event calendar or click on the “One World, Many Stories” Summer Reading icon.

All performances are FREE to the public.  Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.  Space is limited; please arrive early.

Performances are made possible through grants from Louisiana Decentralized Arts Funding, as administered by the Acadiana Center for the Arts.

Summer Reading Early Registration begins Monday, May 23rd at all branches except Turkey Creek.  Turkey Creek is not open on Mondays and will begin Early Registration on Tuesday, May 24th.  Participants will be able to get their free registration packets and also purchase T-shirts or tote bags with the Summer Reading theme if they wish.  For more information, please click on the “One World, Many Stories” icon to the right of this message.
