All branches of the Library system will be closed in the morning, Dec. 15th, so that staff can attend a workshop at the main library in Ville Platte, which will also be closed to the public in the morning.  We are preparing to offer E-books beginning in early January.  Libraries will open in the afternoon at the following times: Ville Platte, 12:30; Mamou, Basile, Pine Prairie, and Turkey Creek, each 1 p.m.; Chataignier, 2 p.m.

The Library Board of Control will hold a public hearing on Wed., Dec. 15 at 3:30 p.m. to receive public comment on the proposed 2010 Operating and Sinking Fund budget amendments and on the initial 2011 budget.  The hearing will be at the main library.

The Board’s meeting originally scheduled for Dec. 14 has been rescheduled for Dec. 15 at 4 p.m., following the public budget hearing.  An agenda will be posted at the main library no later than Monday Dec. 13.  Public attendance and comments are welcome, and refreshments will be served.

Meet the Author: Sat. Oct. 30th from 8:30 to 11:30 at the main library, W. Joseph Dupuis will talk about his book, The Other Side of the Clouds, and sign copies.  Joe, now a resident of Virginia, was one of a family of seven children of Leroy and Alix Dupuis and was brought up just outside of Ville Platte.  He learned to fly and had a varied and exciting career, which he recounts in his book.  Everybody is welcome.
