The Friends of the Library will meet tonight at 6 pm at the main library.  We will enjoy popcorn and soft drinks and exchange ideas for upcoming Friends projects.  We will also learn about plans for the new main library and elect officers for this year.  Please come and bring a friend!

Friends memberships are:

  • $5 individual
  • $10 family
  • $25 corporate

You are welcome to attend the Friends meeting tonight without joining to learn more about the Friends.  All our meetings are open to the public.

There are two listings of books, dvds, audios, etc. on this site:

1) The online catalog (click on “online catalog” on the bar above to see and search the catalog) lists all the books, dvds, audios, etc. that are physically in the main library and the five branch libraries.  You can place requests for these items online, but you will need to come to the library to check them out.  To check these out you will need an Evangeline Parish Library card in good standing.

2) The “Overdrive” button is a link to a collection of ebooks, eaudios, and movies that are available to download to electronic devices.  To check these out, you will also need an Evangeline Parish Library card, or a library card for one of the library’s Overdrive partners (Calcasieu Parish Library, Beauregard Parish Library, Allen Parish Library, Cameron Parish Library, Vernon Parish Library, and Jeff Davis Parish Library).  Depending on your device, you may be able to download the item directly to your electronic device, or you may need to first download it to your home computer and then transfer it (for example, from your personal computer to your Nook).  You may have to install software such as Adobe Digital Editions on your personal computer and your portable device first.  For more information on this, please see the help guides and “Getting Started” sections on the Overdrive page.

3) There are MANY other resources on this page that can help you with school projects, job searches, family history searches, and more.  Another resource is our cheerful staff.  If you have a question, feel free to call us and ask.

4)Through this site you can sign up for FREE computer classes, get live tutor support, and read articles from high-quality journals and magazines on a great variety of topics.  You can find articles written for age levels from elementary school through college.

5) For more information, please call us at 363-1369.  We hope you will enjoy checking out both physical and e-items.

6) All checkouts are FREE.  There may be a waiting list in some cases.

7) If you get a message that your library card has expired, DO NOT throw it away!  Just call us at 363-1369.  Chances are we just need to verify that your address, phone number, and email address are correct.

8) Thank you again for visiting our webpage.  We hope you will enjoy using it to find lots of good books and more!  Don’t forget, we are here to help you.  If you don’t find what you need, give us a call at 363-1369.

Due to cancellations, we now have spaces available for the free one-day computer course, Introducing Windows, to be given this Friday March 9th from 9 am to 5 pm at the main library (Ville Platte).  The course is open to everybody age 16 and older.  If interested, please contact the library immediately at 363-1369 or call 888-487-2700.  The course is limited to 10 students only.  Available space will go fast.

Staff of the Evangeline Parish Library will be taking their yearly ethics training the afternoon of Friday March 2.  As a result, the main library and all branches normally open on Friday will have reduced hours.  Hours planned are as follows:

Thank you for your cooperation.  This is training required yearly by state law.  We apologize for any inconvenience and look forward to serving you at our regularly scheduled times on Monday, March 5th.
