Thanks to great donations Tuesday night, the Friends of the Library are now over one-fifth of the way to their $5,000 goal to help furnish the young children’s room at the future main library. For more information about the fundraiser, please contact Friends president Paula Lafleur at 363-4991.
Nancy Duplechain, author of “Dark Carnival,” and Katie Cormier, author of “A Cherished Haven,” will discuss their books and talk about how to get published at the Friends of the Library meeting on Tuesday Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. at the main library. Everybody is invited.
The Friends will also discuss their very first online fundraiser, “Cajun Seasoning for Your Support,” which is available at the Indiegogo fundraising site.
The name Indiegogo comes from the term “Indie” for small independent film makers. The site originally began as a place where writers and others hoping to make films sought support for their projects.
It has now become a site where many organizations, including the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana (CODIFIL), and the Mickey Shunick search organizers, post projects and invite contributors.
Except for a small percentage to Indiegogo for hosting the online fundraisers, all money donated through the site goes to the individual organization (in our case the Friends of the Evangeline Parish Library to raise money for children’s furniture for the future main library).
So far the Friends have raised $585 of a $5,000 online goal. They have also received $70 of donations offline.
If the Friends meet their $5,000 online goal, they will get to pay an even smaller percentage of the amount raised to Indiegogo. They are working hard to reach their goal and greatly appreciate any donations offered, no matter how small. They want the new library to have a wonderful and very special Children’s Room for our youngest patrons, who are the future of the library system and of Evangeline Parish.
Money is collected through credit card or Paypal. The Friends have set up a special non-profit organization account on Paypal.
If you have any questions about the project, please contact Paula Lafleur, Friends of the Library president, at 363-4991 or at [email protected].
