The agenda for the July 24, 2018, Library Board of Control meeting is posted under “Agendas and Minutes” on this website. Also, in the “Minutes” section below the agenda, we have posted the draft amended budgets that will be considered at the public hearing at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday July 24th at the Mamou Branch Library. These are the draft amended operating budget for 2018 and the draft amended Chataignier Branch construction budget for 2018. Both are available for review here on the website. Also, the draft amended budgets are available for review at the circulation desk at the main library (916 W. Main St., Ville Platte). The Library Board of Control will meet at 12 noon on Tuesday July 24, 2018, at the Mamou Branch Library. In addition to other business (see agenda), the Board will vote on the proposed budget amendments.
The public hearing is to receive public comments on the proposed amendments of the budgets. The Board Meeting at noon is open to the public and public comments and attendance are very welcome. Refreshments will be served.
Ms. Chantel Johnson with Evangeline Soil & Water Conservation will be providing an educational and fun program beginning at the Turkey Creek Branch library on Tuesday, 7/10/18 @ 10 am then on to Ville Platte Main at 2 pm. On Wednesday, 7/11/18, she will be at the Pine Prairie Branch library at 10 am then at the Mamou Branch Library @ 2 pm. On Thursday, 7/12/18, she will be at the Basile Branch Library @ 10 am and her last program will be at the Chataignier Village Hall at 3 pm.
David LeBoeuf will begin his performances on Tuesday, June 12th , at the following locations: Turkey Creek Branch Library @ 10 am and Ville Platte Main Library @ 2 & 6 pm; Wednesday, June 13th, Pine Prairie Branch Library @ 10 am and Mamou Branch Library @ 2 pm; Thursday, June 14th, Basile Branch Library @ 10 am and then to Chataignier Village Hall for his last performance @ 3pm.
For older children and teens, any book that qualifies for Summer Reading credit and that is 150 pages or over will count as 3 books read. Any book that is 100 pages but less than 150 will count as 2 books read.
Older children and teens may still also read some smaller books to younger children for credit.
The Library Board of Control and Staff wish everyone a safe and happy holiday! Also on Tuesday, May 29th, the main library in Ville Platte will host a Summer Reading Kick Off event @ 6 pm with the phenomenal Lady Chops aka Elizabeth Vidos, who is originally from north Louisiana. Ms. Vidos performed with the New York City STOMP Troupe for 10 years. This is a FREE event for the public that is funded in part by the Friends of the Library, Cabot Corp. and Pine Prairie Energy.
