Gearing up for BookFest!!! Saturday, October 27, 2018 – 8 am – 2pm

Open invitation to authors, vendors, social clubs, civic clubs, businesses to let folks know what you do!

2018 EVANGELINE PARISH LIBRARY

BOOK FEST INVITATION!

Date: Saturday, October 27, 2018 – 8 am to 2 pm

With the help of the Friends of the Library, we are going to make this Book Fest very festive! Book Fest was designed to offer our patrons an annual opportunity to purchase used or withdrawn books to build their own libraries at home. It is also our way of saying “Thank You” for all of the support over the years.

We would like to extend an early invitation to our local authors, community partners, social clubs, youth clubs, etc.to join us on Saturday, October 27^th from 8 am to 2 pm to set up a tent or claim a spot with a table on the library grounds to promote and / or sell your products or services or to do some fundraising and there is NO vendor fee!! We are in the very early planning stages, but basically, we’d like anyone interested in participating to contact us for details and to book a spot by OCTOBER 10TH.

If you chose to join us you will be asked to set up in an area around the front and east side of the library (with or without a tent) to promote or sell your items. The library will function as it usually does until regular closing time at Noon but the Book Fest in the Mary Foster-Galasso Multipurpose Room and the outside activities will continue on the grounds of the library until 2pm.

Thank you all so much!

Thank you all for a wonderful retirement send off at the main library. It has been my privilege to be the library director for Evangeline Parish for nearly 16 years. We accomplished a lot in the past few years, none of which would have been possible without wonderful parish-wide support. I am especially proud of the fact that we built the Turkey Creek Branch, the Chataignier Branch (soon to open), and the new main library/headquarters (Ville Platte), expanded the size of the Pine Prairie Father Leslie Prescott Branch, and renovated the interiors of the Mamou and Basile Branches. Better facilities make possible better library services.

I hope that you all will welcome the incoming library director Margie Mealer and give her and the Library Board of Control your support as they continue to provide quality library service for Evangeline Parish.

Minutes of the July 24, 2018 Library Board Meeting and Amended Budgets approved at the meeting have been posted.

The Minutes of the July 24, 2018, Library Board of Control meeting have been posted in the “Agendas and Minutes” page of this website. In addition, the 2018 Chataignier Branch Construction Budget and the 2018 Library Operating Budget, as amended at the meeting, are also posted there. If you have any questions, please call the library at (337) 363-1369. Copies of the amended budgets are also available at the front desk of the main library.

Fun with Spanish programs this week at Main and all library branches

This week our own Thelma Fontenot will be presenting a wonderful Fun with Spanish program beginning at the Turkey Creek Branch library on Tuesday July 17th @ 10:00am then on to Ville Platte Main Library at 2:00 pm. On Wednesday, July 18th, she will be at the Pine Prairie Branch library at 10:00 am, then at the Mamou Branch Library @ 2:00 pm. On Thursday, July 19th, she will be at the Basile Branch Library at 10:00 am and her last presentation of this week will be at the Chataignier Village Hall at 3:00 pm. Miss Thelma does a weekly Fun with Spanish program at the Ville Platte Main Library on Wednesdays at 4:00 pm, where children have fun learning to speak, (hablar), to sing, (cantar), and to dance, (bailar)!
