The Evangeline Genealogical and Historical Society will meet in the main library (Ville Platte) multipurpose room on Sat. July 23rd at 9:30 am. Everybody is welcome. Please note that the meeting is being held on this Saturday in order to not conflict with Bastile Day. Mr. J.D. Soileau will be the guest speaker. Mr. Soileau, who has collected over 150 cattle brands, will speak on cattle brands.

The Evangeline Parish Library Board of Control will meet on Tues. July 26 at 4 pm in the multipurpose room of the main library (Ville Platte). The meeting is open to the public, and refreshments will be served. An agenda will be posted on the website and at the main library and branch libraries at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting.
Thursday July 28th is the last day to turn in reading logs at Turkey Creek Branch Library. Sorry, no exceptions.

August is “Fine Free” Month for all six Evangeline Parish Library locations! Return any items in good condition, regardless of how long they have been checked out from the Evangeline Parish Library, and have all fines and fees for them waived. The “Divine Eyes” Teen Book Club meets Tuesday Aug. 2nd at 6 pm at the main library (Ville Platte). This group is for ages 13-17 only. For more information, please call the club’s coordinator Liz at the main library (363-1369). New members are very welcome!
Due to the severe weather and flooding, the main library and all branches will remain closed to the public Monday Aug. 15th. If road conditions permit, staff will be going to each location to assess issues with facilities and equipment, so that hopefully we can reopen at the regular time on Tuesday.
Thursday, September 8th, Basile Branch will resume their pre-k story hours. Children 0-5 are welcome to join the wonderful Basile staff and volunteers for stories and a craft! The Library and the Friends of the Library will sponsor “Book Fest” on Saturday Oct. 8th from 8 am to 2 pm at the main library (Ville Platte). In case of bad weather, the rain date is the following Sat. Oct. 15th at the same time and location.

Basile continues its wonderful small children’s programs on Thursday Oct. 20th from 10 am to 11 am with a special Halloween program. Call Miss Sherry at the Basile Branch for more details. Basile has a special children’s program every other Thursday morning from 10 am to 11 am.
The Mystery Book Club meets Wed. Oct. 26th at 10:30 am in the multipurpose room of the main library. The book of the month is Martha Grimes’ “The Man with a Load of Mischief.” New members are always welcome! Come join us!

“Lawyers in Libraries” is sponsoring a special event at the main library on Thurs. Oct. 27th from 2 to 4 pm. Sign up for fifteen minute individual sessions of general advice. Walk-ins are welcome on a space available basis.
A representative of the Coreil Campus of SLCC will be at the main library Nov. 1st from 4 pm to 6 pm to discuss the upcoming automotive program on the campus. If you or somebody you know might be interested in enrolling in this program to learn a much in demand skill in a short time, please come by to talk to the Coreil representative.
The Evangeline Parish Library Board of Control will hold a public hearing Tues. Nov. 15th at 3:30 pm at the Mamou Branch Library. The purpose of the hearing is to gather public comment on the current Electronics Resources Policies (Internet Safety Policy, Acceptable Use Policy, and Social Media Policy). The public is encouraged to attend and comment. Policies are available for review on this webpage.
The Library Board of Control meeting scheduled for Nov. 15th is being rescheduled for Thursday December 1st at at 4 pm in the Mamou Branch Library. Everybody is welcome, and public comments are invited.
The Divine Eyes Teen Book Club meets Tuesday Nov. 15th at 6 pm in the multipurpose room of the main library. New members are welcome: the group is open to all persons ages 13 through 17. The November book for discussion is “Catch Your Death” by Mark Edwards and Louise Voss.
The Mystery Book Club will have its November meeting on Wed. Nov. 30th at 10:30 am at the main library. The book for the month is “Sycamore Row” by John Grisham. Please note that the club will not have a December meeting. The next meeting for the club after November is on Jan. 25th.
The Library Board meeting that was originally scheduled for Nov. 15th has been rescheduled for Thurs. December 1st at 4 p.m. at the Mamou Branch Library. This is the meeting to review draft amended budgets for 2016 and review draft budgets for 2017, to be submitted to the Police Jury for inclusion in their budget hearing and budget approval process. Everybody is welcome.
