Welcome to the first “Crafting Tuesday” of 2016!  The program is at 6 p.m. Jan. 5th in the multipurpose room of the main library (Ville Platte).  Tonight’s project is a “No Sew T Shirt Tote Bag.”  Please bring your own T shirt.  Coordinator for the project is Suzy Lemoine.

The Evangeline Parish Genealogical and Historical Society will meet Saturday January 16th at 9:30 a.m. in the main library multipurpose room.  Everybody is invited.

Retired kindergarten teacher and library staff member, Ms. Patrola Savoy, will be giving story hours for young children at 3:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the main library.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.  Miss Pat, aka “Mother Goose,” will also be available in the children’s section throughout the day on Tuesdays and Thursdays to read stories to children and help them find and select books to checkout.  All children must be accompanied by an adult.  For more information, please call the main library at 363-1369.

The Friends of the Library will hold a meeting on Tues. Jan. 19th at 5:30 pm at the main library.  They will elect officers for the new year.  Everybody is invited.

The Evangeline Parish Library Board of Control will meet Tuesday January 26th at 4 p.m. at the Mamou Branch.  The meeting is open to the public, and public attendance and comments are very welcome.  Refreshments will be served.  An agenda will be posted no later than Friday Jan. 22nd.

The Mystery Book Club will meet Wednesday January 27th at 10:30 a.m. in the multipurpose room of the main library (Ville Platte).  This month’s book selection is “I Heard That Song Before” by Mary Higgins Clark.  The club welcomes new members; please come and join in the discussion.

Due to the severe weather projected for our area from mid day to mid afternoon, Chataignier branch of the library will not open.  This branch is normally open from 2 to 5 weekdays.  We expect to be open at the regular time on Wednesday.

Our “Crafty Tuesdays” continue every Tuesday evening at the main library in Ville Platte at 6 p.m.  Join Outreach Coordinator Suzy Lemoine for a fun 90 minutes of crafts and surprises.  The program is open to adults and teens.

Drop in “Tech Help” is available each Thursday morning in the multipurpose room of the main library in Ville Platte from 9:30 am to 11:30 a.m.

The Evangeline Genealogical and Historical Society will meet Saturday April 16 at 9:30 am in the multipurpose room of the main library in Ville Platte.  The public is invited to hear their guest speakers, John Ledoux and Margaret Briley, who will talk about the Orphan Train Museum and share some of the stories about the children who arrived in Evangeline Parish.

The book that will be discussed is “Body Double” by Tess Gerritsen.  Everybody is welcome to come join us in the multipurpose room of the main library in Ville Platte.  The meeting was rescheduled due to a conflict with the All-Staff Training Day which will be held the next week.

Want to learn more about our eBooks?  Having trouble with your e Reader?  Have other tech questions?  We can’t fix hardware, but we will try to help you learn to use it more easily.  Join Tina in the multipurpose room of the main library Thursday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 for one on one tech help.

The Chataignier Branch Library will close at 4:30 pm on Monday May 2nd, one half hour early.  It will reopen at its regular time 2 pm on Tuesday May 3rd.

The children’s program for Thursday morning May 5th at Basile will have a Mother’s Day theme.

The Basile children’s program Thursday morning May 19th is “Planting Seeds.”  This will be the last program of the spring, with Summer Reading beginning June 1st.

The Evangeline Parish Library Board of Control meeting scheduled for Tuesday May 24th has been cancelled.  The next scheduled meeting is Tuesday July 26 at 4 pm at the main library (Ville Platte).
