The Evangeline Genealogical and Historical Society will hold its quarterly meeting on Saturday April 18th at 9:30 a.m. in the multipurpose room of the main library (Ville Platte). Everybody is welcome.
Library Associate and Outreach Coordinator Suzy Lemoine will present “Paper Folding and Re-Purposing Old Books” in the multipurpose room of the main library (Ville Platte) on Tues. April 21st at 6 p.m. This is a workshop with hands-on activities as well as demonstrations. The event is FREE, and pre-registration at the main library or by calling the library at 363-1369 is encouraged but not required. Come join the fun!
This is the FREE follow-up class to Windows 8 step 1, which was given on April 13th. However, you are welcome to take this class without taking the first one if you already have some familiarity with Windows 8.
Windows 8 step 2 will be given from 10 a.m. to noon on April 27th at the Main Library (Ville Platte). To register for this FREE class, register at the main library or call 363-1369. Space is limited to 15 participants. Priority will be given to persons living, working, attending school, or owning property in Evangeline Parish. All others will be on a space-available basis. Adults only, please (age 18 and up).

This FREE class in Computer Security will be offered at the main library (Ville Platte) on May 4th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Register at the main library or call 363-1369. Library Associate and Facilities Manager Ken Johnson will present “Squirrels 101” in the multipurpose room of the main library (Ville Platte) on Tues. May 5th at 6 p.m. The program is FREE, and open to all. Pre-registration at the main library or by calling the library at 363-1369 is encouraged but not required.
The main library and all branches will be closed to the public on Wed. May 6th all day. Staff from throughout the parish will be attending Staff Workshop Day in Ville Platte in preparation for Summer Reading.
Come see the TAG (talented and gifted) student art exhibit in the main library multipurpose room, Monday May 11th through Saturday May 16th, with a special reception Tuesday night May 12th. Admission is free, and the work of about thirty students, ranging in age from first through twelfth grade, will be exhibited.
There will be a reception for the Student Art Exhibit on Tues. May 12th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the main library multipurpose room.
This FREE Tablets 101 class will be offered at the main library (Ville Platte) on May 18th from 10 a.m. to noon. Bring your own tablet or ereader to have your questions answered and learn better how to use it. Space is limited to 15 participants. Register at the main library or call 363-1369. Priority will be given to persons living, working, attending school, or owning property in Evangeline Parish. All others will be on a space-available basis. Adults only, please (age 18 and up).
This FREE Computer Tutor class will be offered at the main library (Ville Platte) on May 18th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Bring your computer questions and have them answered by a professional certified instructor. Register at the main library, or call 363-1369. Class is limited to 15 participants. Priority will be given to persons living, working, attending school, or owning property in Evangeline Parish. The Internet Step 2 class that was originally scheduled for April 27th and cancelled due to bad weather has been rescheduled. It is Friday May 22nd at 10 a.m. to noon in the main library multipurpose room. Please call 363-1369 to register. Walk-ins will also be accepted on a space-available basis.
The Evangeline Parish Main Library and all branch libraries will be closed Monday May 25th for Memorial Day.
The Bar None Petting Zoo is back by popular demand! They will be at the Turkey Creek Branch on Tues. June 2nd at 10 a.m. Admission is FREE. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Families Helping Families will have a special FREE Emergency Preparedness Meeting. Although emphasis is on families and other caregivers for individuals with special needs, this meeting is open to everybody, and everybody is very welcome. It is time to prepare for hurricanes, etc., and this meeting can help you get ready. The meeting will be in the main library multipurpose room.
Local author Bonnie Hollier will have a book signing for her novel, “Her Awakening,” in the multipurpose room of the main library from 10 a.m. to 11;30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20th. Everybody is invited.

The Mystery Book Club will hold its monthly June meeting at noon on Wednesday June 24th at noon in the main library multipurpose room. Everybody is welcome. The book for discussion is “No Second Chance” by Harlan Coben. At 12:45, following the Coben book discussion, the club will have a presentation from author Dwaines Lawless, who is from Welsh, LA. She will discuss her new novel, “Cajun Moon.” Everybody is welcome, and walk-ins are welcome during the meeting.

The Pine Prairie Library will close early on Wed. July 1st so that staff can attend the visitation and funeral services for Mr. Gerald Duplechin. Mr. Duplechin was the Library Board of Control member representing the Pine Prairie/Turkey Creek area. He had recently resigned from the board due to his health. He was a wonderful board member and a fine man. He will be very much missed.
