Families Helping Families will have a special FREE Emergency Preparedness Meeting. Although emphasis is on families and other caregivers for individuals with special needs, this meeting is open to everybody, and everybody is very welcome. It is time to prepare for hurricanes, etc., and this meeting can help you get ready. The meeting will be in the main library multipurpose room.
Local author Bonnie Hollier will have a book signing for her novel, “Her Awakening,” in the multipurpose room of the main library from 10 a.m. to 11;30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20th. Everybody is invited.

The Mystery Book Club will hold its monthly June meeting at noon on Wednesday June 24th at noon in the main library multipurpose room. Everybody is welcome. The book for discussion is “No Second Chance” by Harlan Coben. At 12:45, following the Coben book discussion, the club will have a presentation from author Dwaines Lawless, who is from Welsh, LA. She will discuss her new novel, “Cajun Moon.” Everybody is welcome, and walk-ins are welcome during the meeting.

The Pine Prairie Library will close early on Wed. July 1st so that staff can attend the visitation and funeral services for Mr. Gerald Duplechin. Mr. Duplechin was the Library Board of Control member representing the Pine Prairie/Turkey Creek area. He had recently resigned from the board due to his health. He was a wonderful board member and a fine man. He will be very much missed.

The Evangeline Genealogical and Historical Society will meet at the Evangeline Parish Main Library (916 W. Main, Ville Platte) in the Multipurpose room at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday July 18th. Guest speaker, Jane G. Bulliard, will present a program called, “How to Build Historical Context from Your Family Story.” Admission is free, and visitors are very welcome.

At the Library Board meeting on Tuesday, the Board approved August as “fine free month.” Any items returned in good condition during August will have all fines on them waived. In addition, we will be offering significant discounts on previous charges on accounts if the discounted amount is paid in full at one time during the month of August. For more information, please call 337 363-1369 (main library) or the branch of the Evangeline Parish Library nearest you. Items can be returned at any of the six locations–it does not have to be the location where they were checked out.
Monday August 10th at 4 p.m. is the deadline to apply for a part-time security officer position at the main library. ALL applications to be considered must be complete and turned in to the main library by that time. No late applications will be considered. The person for this position will also occasionally help the library’s facilities manager in correcting facility problems at the main library and any of the five branches. The applicant must be 21 years of age or older, have a valid driver’s license, and have a high school diploma or GED. For more information please call the main library at 363-1369.

The applicant must be 21 years of age or older, have a valid driver’s license, and have a high school diploma or GED. Customer service experience is strongly preferred. The Friends of the Library will meet Tuesday August 18th at 5:30 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the main library (916 W. Main St., Ville Platte). Everybody is welcome. Come and bring a friend!
