The “Divine Eyes” Teen Book Club for ages 13 through 17 will meet Tues. Jan. 10th at 6 pm at the main library (Ville Platte). The book for this month is “Tears of a Tiger” by Sharon Draper. New members are welcome!
Basile Branch will host its first pre K program of 2017 on Thursday Jan. 12th at 10 am. The subject is “manners.” Come join the wonderful staff and volunteers at the Basile Branch for a great time.

The Friends of the Library will hold their first meeting of 2017 on Tues. Jan. 17th at 4:30 pm at the main library (Ville Platte). Everybody is welcome. Please come and bring a friend.
The Evangeline Genealogical and Historical Society will hold its first meeting of 2017 on Saturday morning Jan. 21st at the main library (Ville Platte). Everybody is welcome. Guest speaker is Mr. Jim Bradshaw, a well-known Louisiana journalist. Mr. Bradshaw will speak on “The Many Cultures of South Louisiana.”
The Mystery Book Club will hold its first meeting of 2017 on Wednesday Jan. 25th at 10:30 am at the main library. The book for the month is “Inferno” by Daniel Brown. New members are very welcome!
Basile Branch Pre K program Thurs. Jan. 26 at 10 am. Come enjoy our special Valentine’s program!
The Mamou Branch Library will be closed all day Monday Feb. 27th for Lundi Gras.
Dr. Douglas Ray-Breaux, a native of Jennings who now lives in Houston, will speak at the main library on Saturday March 25th at 10 am. Dr. Breaux is both an MD and a pharmacy doctorate, as well as the author of “The Color of Freedom After the Turbulent 60’s”. His book and presentation offer an inspiring perspective on the development of black cultural heritage. Dr. Breaux’s goal is to inspire and motivate youth to understand history and cultural heritage and achieve great things. Everybody is very welcome to attend Dr. Breaux’s presentation and book signing after the presentation.
The Mystery Book Club meets Wednesday March 29th at 10:30 am at the main library (Ville Platte). The book for the month is “A Quiet Life in the County” by T. E. Kinsey. Everybody is welcome.
The Evangeline Genealogical and Historical Society will meet Sat. April 22nd at 9:30 a.m. in the multipurpose room of the main library (Ville Platte). Guest speakers are Fr. Jason Vidrine and Mardel Sibley. They will discuss their trip to Chartres, Alabama. Everybody is welcome.
The main library and all branches will be closed to the public on Wed. April 26th all day so that staff can attend workshops at the main library.
Come help us celebrate the reopening of the Basile Branch! On Thursday May 25th there will be a ribbon cutting there, followed by cake and punch throughout the day until 4 pm. The Basile Branch is on Stagg Ave., right across from Basile State Bank.
