Pre K kids can meet Santa and Mrs. Claus at 10 am this morning at the Basile Branch.  Join Santa for Christmas storytime!

Basile Branch will have its last Pre K program of 2016 on Thurs. Dec. 15th at 10 am.  Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be special guests.

The main library and all branches will be closed for Christmas holidays Thurs. Dec. 22nd through Monday Dec. 26th.  

The main library and all branches will be closed Friday Dec. 30th through Monday Jan. 2nd for New Year’s holiday.

Drop in Tech Help has a new time: Thursdays from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the main library.  The first session of the year will be Thurs. Jan. 5th.

The “Divine Eyes” Teen Book Club for ages 13 through 17 will meet Tues. Jan. 10th at 6 pm at the main library (Ville Platte).  The book for this month is “Tears of a Tiger” by Sharon Draper.  New members are welcome!

Basile Branch will host its first pre K program of 2017 on Thursday Jan. 12th at 10 am.  The subject is “manners.”  Come join the wonderful staff and volunteers at the Basile Branch for a great time.

The Friends of the Library will hold their first meeting of 2017 on Tues. Jan. 17th at 4:30 pm at the main library (Ville Platte).  Everybody is welcome.  Please come and bring a friend.

The Evangeline Genealogical and Historical Society will hold its first meeting of 2017 on Saturday morning Jan. 21st at the main library (Ville Platte).  Everybody is welcome.  Guest speaker is Mr. Jim Bradshaw, a well-known Louisiana journalist.  Mr. Bradshaw will speak on “The Many Cultures of South Louisiana.”

Bereavement Support Group is open to all and is free.  No reservations required.  First meeting is 3 to 4 pm Monday Jan. 23rd at the main library.

The Library Board of Control will meet Jan. 24th at 4 pm at the Mamou Branch Library.  Everybody is welcome.

The Mystery Book Club will hold its first meeting of 2017 on Wednesday Jan. 25th at 10:30 am at the main library.  The book for the month is “Inferno” by Daniel Brown.  New members are very welcome!

The Mystery Book Club meets Wednesday Feb. 22nd at 10:30 am at the main library (Ville Platte).  The book of the month is “Tell No One” by Harlan Cobin.

A grief support group meeting will be held Monday Feb. 27  at 3 pm at the main library.  You don’t have to have anybody in hospice in order to come.  Everybody is welcome.

The Library Board of Control will meet Tuesday March 21st at 4 pm at the Mamou Branch Library.  Everybody is welcome.

Dr. Douglas Ray-Breaux, a native of Jennings who now lives in Houston, will speak at the main library on Saturday March 25th at 10 am.  Dr. Breaux is both an MD and a pharmacy doctorate, as well as the author of “The Color of Freedom After the Turbulent 60’s”.  His book and presentation offer an inspiring perspective on the development of black cultural heritage.  Dr. Breaux’s goal is to inspire and motivate youth to understand history and cultural heritage and achieve great things. Everybody is very welcome to attend Dr. Breaux’s presentation and book signing after the presentation.

Come help us celebrate the reopening of the Basile Branch!  On Thursday May 25th there will be a ribbon cutting there, followed by cake and punch throughout the day until 4 pm.  The Basile Branch is on Stagg Ave., right across from Basile State Bank.
