The Evangeline Genealogical and Historical Society will meet at the Evangeline Parish Main Library (916 W. Main, Ville Platte) in the Multipurpose room at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday July 18th. Guest speaker, Jane G. Bulliard, will present a program called, “How to Build Historical Context from Your Family Story.” Admission is free, and visitors are very welcome.

At the Library Board meeting on Tuesday, the Board approved August as “fine free month.” Any items returned in good condition during August will have all fines on them waived. In addition, we will be offering significant discounts on previous charges on accounts if the discounted amount is paid in full at one time during the month of August. Items can be returned at any of the six locations–it does not have to be the location where they were checked out.
Monday August 10th at 4 p.m. is the deadline to apply for a part-time security officer position at the main library. ALL applications to be considered must be complete and turned in to the main library by that time. No late applications will be considered. The person for this position will also occasionally help the library’s facilities manager in correcting facility problems at the main library and any of the five branches. The applicant must be 21 years of age or older, have a valid driver’s license, and have a high school diploma or GED. For more information please call the main library at 363-1369.

The Evangeline Parish Library Board of Control will meet at 4 p.m. at the Mamou Branch Library on Tuesday September 22nd. The meeting is open to the public and refreshments will be served. For more information, please call the Main Library at 337 363-1369.
The Library proudly presents: the return of Book Fest. On Saturday Sept. 26th from 8 a.m. till noon, the Friends of the Library will host a book sale and bake sale at the main library. There will also be opportunities to meet and talk with local authors, plus entertainer Frank Levy will perform. Admission is free.
The Library Board of Control will meet Tuesday December 15th at 4 p.m. at the Mamou Branch Library. The meeting is open to the public. This meeting is a rescheduling of the Nov. 17th meeting, which was canceled due to very bad weather.
The Mamou Branch Library at 2 p.m. on Dec. 22nd will sponsor a story hour and craft time at the library. If anyone is interested in donating cupcakes, etc. please contact the Mamou Branch Library. Holiday Safari is coming! Animal Tales will be at the main library (916 W. Main St., Ville Platte) on Dec. 22nd at 4 p.m. Six surprise guest animals from all over the world will provide participants an up close and personal experience through volunteer interactions and crowd participation. Admission is free. Come join us!

Welcome to the first “Crafting Tuesday” of 2016! The program is at 6 p.m. Jan. 5th in the multipurpose room of the main library (Ville Platte). Tonight’s project is a “No Sew T Shirt Tote Bag.” Please bring your own T shirt. Coordinator for the project is Suzy Lemoine.

Retired kindergarten teacher and library staff member, Ms. Patrola Savoy, will be giving story hours for young children at 3:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the main library. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Miss Pat, aka “Mother Goose,” will also be available in the children’s section throughout the day on Tuesdays and Thursdays to read stories to children and help them find and select books to checkout. The Friends of the Library will hold a meeting on Tues. Jan. 19th at 5:30 pm at the main library. They will elect officers for the new year. Everybody is invited.

The Mystery Book Club will meet Wednesday January 27th at 10:30 a.m. in the multipurpose room of the main library (Ville Platte). This month’s book selection is “I Heard That Song Before” by Mary Higgins Clark. The club welcomes new members; please come and join in the discussion.
Join Library Board member Ms. Faye Langley and the staff of the Basile Branch for young children’s story hour on Thurs. Jan. 28th at 10 a.m. Children must be accompanied by adults. For more information about story hour, please call the Basile Branch.
