Families Helping Families of Acadiana will hold a free training session for family members. Families Helping Families assists families with special needs family members. The meeting is open to everybody.
This “Internet Basics” “lunch and learn” training is designed to help anybody who is uncomfortable using the Internet and wants to learn how to find information on the Internet quickly and safely. CenturyLink is sponsoring this program and will provide a light lunch for all participants. Admission is FREE. The Evangeline Genealogical and Historical Society will meet Saturday Oct. 19 at the Main Library. Everybody is welcome. Come and learn more about local history and how to research your family tree.
The Library Board of Control will hold a special meeting on Monday Dec. 9th at 4 p.m. at the main library (242 W. Main St., Ville Platte). An agenda will be posted no later than Friday Dec. 6th.
The meeting is open to the public, and public attendance and comments are welcome and encouraged. Refreshments will be served.
The board will review and amend the 2013 construction budget and adopt a 2014 construction budget.
The board will also review the 2014 calendar and set the holidays, planned closing dates, and meeting dates for 2014. This is subject to revision, due to the as yet unscheduled moving of the main library in 2014 from its current location to 916 W. Main.
ACA navigator Lou Hulin will assist patrons with Obamacare applications. She will be at the main library in Ville Platte on the 2nd and 3rd Tuesdays of each month, beginning Dec. 10, 2013, and ending March 18, 2014.
ACA Navigator Lou Hulin will be available to assist patrons at the Mamou Branch Library from 1 to 2:30 p.m. each 2nd Tuesday of each month beginning Dec. 10th 2013 and ending March 11th 2014.
ACA navigator Lou Hulin will be at the Pine Prairie Library to assist patrons with Obamacare applications on the 3rd Tuesdays of each month from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., beginning Dec. 17, 2013, and ending March 18, 2014.
“Fine Free” period is in effect through Jan. 15, 2014. Any items returned in good condition during this period will have all fines waived on them.
There will also be generous discounts on existing (already incurred) fines and fees, if payment is made in full in one payment during this period.

“Fine Free” period is the library’s way of saying “Thank you” for all your support year round.
Due to the recent weather closures of the libraries, all fines will be waived on any item returned in good condition through Friday, Feb. 7. You may return your Evangeline Parish Library items to the main library (Ville Platte) or to any of the five branch libraries (Mamou, Basile, Chataignier, Pine Prairie, or Turkey Creek).
The Obamacare Navigator will be in Ville Platte to assist patrons in enrolling on Feb. 11 from 9 a.m till noon.
The Main Library and all branches will open late at 10 a.m. on Tues. Feb. 11th
