The Library Board of Control meeting originally scheduled for Monday Nov. 17th has been rescheduled for Monday Nov. 24th at 4 p.m. at the main library.

The main library and all branches will be closed beginning Thurs. Nov. 27th until Monday Dec. 1st.  We wish everybody a Happy Thanksgiving.

Library “fine free” month is Dec. 15, 2014, through Jan. 15, 2015.  Return any items in good condition, and have all fines and fees on the items waived.

The Family Tree will conduct a special informational meeting for its Healthy Families program on Jan. 13th at 6 p.m. at the new main library (916 W. Main St., Ville Platte, LA 70586).  Everybody is welcome.  Come and learn more about the organization and about how it can help your family.

The Evangeline Genealogical and Historical Society will meet Saturday, Jan. 17th, at the new main library (916 W. Main St., Ville Platte) at 9:30 a.m.  Dr. Malcolm Vidrine, the author of “Cajun Prairie,” will be the guest speaker.  Everybody is invited.

The Friends of the Evangeline Parish Library will hold their first meeting of 2015 on Tues. Jan. 20th at 5:30 p.m. at the new main library (916 W. Main St., Ville Platte).  Everybody is invited.  Come and bring a friend!

The Evangeline Parish Library Board of Control will meet Tues. Jan. 27th at 4 p.m. at the new main library (916 W. Main St., Ville Platte, LA 70586).  The meeting is open to everybody, and public attendance and comments are welcome and encouraged.  An agenda will be posted at the library no later than Monday Jan. 26th.

Beginning Sat. Feb. 7, the Friends of the Library will host a two-week “Sweet Deal” sale for used books, paperbacks, and more.  Paperbacks are 5 cents each, and hardbacks 25 cents.  There will also be magazines, music CDs and some VHS tapes.  The main sale location is the main library in Ville Platte.  Sale will be open in the multipurpose room and at the Friends corner.  The multipurpose room portion of the sale will be closed for approximately one hour during scheduled children’s programming in the room.

The “Sweet Deal” sale at the main library ends at noon today.

The “Food for Thought” Book Club and the Library will co-sponsor a special meeting of the club on Tues. March 10th in the multipurpose room of the main library (Ville Platte).  Gary Stewart, author of “The Most Dangerous Animal of All: Searching for My Father and Finding the Zodiac Killer” will discuss his book.  Space is limited to 60 participants.  A sign up sheet is available at the main library.  Also please note this is an adult only event: no children will be allowed in the room during the program.

Hospice presentation is open to all, in the multipurpose room at 5:30 p.m. on Tues. March 10th.

Learn more about Ebay and how to use it effectively.  Library Associate Emily Fontenot will present a program on Ebay at 6 p.m. on Tues. March 24th at the Main Library.  The event is free and is open to all adults.

The first meeting of the new “Mystery Book Club” will be held at noon on Thurs. This is the FREE follow-up class to Windows 8 step 1, which was given on April 13th.  However, you are welcome to take this class without taking the first one if you already have some familiarity with Windows 8.

Come see the TAG (talented and gifted) student art exhibit in the main library multipurpose room, Monday May 11th through Saturday May 16th, with a special reception Tuesday night May 12th.  Admission is free, and the work of about thirty students, ranging in age from first through twelfth grade, will be exhibited.
