The main library and all branches will be closed tomorrow, Monday, to acknowledge Labor Day. The Board and staff wish all of our patrons a safe and memorable celebration of our Labor Force past and present! We will resume our normal hours on Tuesday, September 7th with the following exception: the main library in Ville Platte is discontinuing their evening hours (6 – 8pm) until further notice.

The Library Board of Control meeting is Thursday, September 9th, at noon in the Multipurpose Room in Ville Platte Main. The public is invited to attend.

To folks who requested books over the last few weeks, please come by to pick them up or call for an update. Also, we have a special on our Friends of the Library materials – 10 items (books, magazines, DVD’s) for $1.00 at the main library Friends area.

In an effort to join forces with local organizations who want to bring aid to our neighbors in South Louisiana who are struggling with the aftermath of Hurricane Ida, the main library and all branches will be drop off points for donations that will be brought to the Sheriff’s Department for delivery on September 10th. Examples of items needed are cleaning supplies, work gloves, batteries of all sizes, toiletries, first aid supplies, diapers, water, charcoal & lighter fluid, trash bags, mosquito spray, dog food, etc. just to name a few.

We continue to extend very heartfelt expressions of sympathy to those patrons that we recently lost and pray for those who are facing the awful challenges presented by this virus. Please mask up and sanitize your hands often. In light of all that is going on now, we have cancelled our annual Library Fest that was scheduled in early November. We will be back in 2022!

Three reminders: (1) FINE FREE month for the library system has been EXTENDED to September 30th, so no worries about late fines (2) FREE WIFI is available in the parking areas around the library buildings until 10 pm except for our Mamou branch which cuts off when the library closes.  Please check our webpage and Facebook page often for updates. MASK WILL CONTINUE TO BE REQUIRED anytime anyone is inside of the main library or any library branch. (3) The Medicare Workshops will be offered again on Sept. 7th and 14th at 11am & 5 pm and on Sept. 21st at 9 am & 3 pm. Classes are limited and masks are required.
