For our Books & Beyond teens, we have Take & Make Craft Bags available all month long at the main library in Ville Platte. We may have an interesting opportunity in the Fall for aspiring writers. Author Chris Fontenot who is the President of the Writers’ Guild of Acadiana is considering offering classes to help aspiring writers, young and old, to hone their craft by offering classes if enough folks are interested. This is an opportunity that is just beginning to be discussed so that when we begin offering programming again, he will have had time to develop a schedule. If you are interested and would like more information, please email me at [email protected]. Please share this idea. Now that the rain has subsided a bit, perhaps a road trip is in order to see a unique traveling exhibit in our parish. Our Basile branch library is hosting one  about an endangered species: Whooping Cranes! Once thriving, whooping cranes are now the rarest species of crane and North America’s most endangered native bird. This traveling exhibit is made possible with generous donors like Chevron, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), and Audubon Nature Institute. Come by the Basile library during their regular hours and check out this unique exhibit during the month of September or see it at one of our other branches to be announced in October, November & December.  MASK WILL CONTINUE TO BE REQUIRED anytime anyone is inside of the main library or any library branch. To folks who requested books over the last few weeks, please come by to pick them up or call for an update. Also, we have a special on our Friends of the Library materials – 10 items (books, magazines, DVD’s) for $1.00 at the main library Friends area. For Hurricane Ida victims, the main library and all branches will continue to drop off points until September 30th for donations of any kind, but we are especially hoping to get donations for the many animals that have also been displaced. Reminders: (1) the main library in Ville Platte is discontinuing its evening hours (6 – 8pm) until further notice. (2) FINE FREE month for the library system has been EXTENDED to September 30th so no worries about late fines (3) FREE WIFI is available in the parking areas around the library buildings until 10 pm except for our Mamou branch which cuts off when the library closes.  Please check our webpage and Facebook page often for updates. For more information call the main library @ 337-363-1369 or email [email protected].  Visit our Facebook page for all upcoming events in addition to our webpage www.evangelinelibrary.org and never forget that libraries do change lives…. even in the cloud!  Suzy Lemoine, Outreach Coordinator.
