What a treat is in store for our patrons this week with two artists with the Evangeline Arts Council offering the craft programs around the parish! Tuesday, July 9th, Jan Veillon and Neva Ardoin will be at the Turkey Creek branch @ 10 am and then the Chataignier branch @ 2pm; Wednesday, July 10th, they will be at the Pine Prairie branch @ 10 am then the Mamou Branch @ 2 pm; Thursday, July 11th, they will be at the Basile branch at 10 am then the Ville Platte main library at 2 pm. Please share this good news!!  I’d like to remind the public that we designed our summer programs to offer the same entertainment   at each branch each   week so if you can’t make one at your usual library then go to another library at a time that works for you. Additionally, if you really like one program then you are welcome to go to the same program that week at each library! The calendars are posted on our website, Facebook page and available for pickup at all libraries. These programs are free to the public and funded with generous donations from these local sponsors: Cabot Corporation, Evangeline Bank & Trust, Paul’s Meat Market, Ardoin’s Funeral Home, Henry Farm Petting Zoo, Lakeview Park & Beach, Bon Aimee’ Insurance & RE Services, Basile State Bank, JD Bank-Ville Platte, Vidrine Ace Hardware, Teet’s Food Store, Kary’s Roux, Hancock Whitney Bank and the Friends of the Library.

Registration for Summer Reading will continue through July at all branches. Calendars are available at the main library and all branch libraries and are posted on our website. Children are invited to log the number of books they read and those who read at least 10 books will receive a prize each time up to 12 times. When our summer reading program ends, we will look at our top readers and they will be presented with a grand prize! Summer Reading programs aren’t just about receiving prizes but, in fact, it helps children to continue developing their reading and social skills. This is a gentle reminder that parents with children from 0 – 17 are now required by a new law, Act 436, to RE-REGISTER their child (children) to allow or disallow them to have access to books, eBooks and the internet.

New this Saturday, July 8th, at Ville Platte main: We will host the second “Dog Adoption Days at the Library” at the main library in Ville Platte @ 8 am to noon. This opportunity is being offered by the Ville Platte Dog Pound manager. Call 337-363-1369 for more information.

You can always call the main library @ 337-363-1369 or send an email to [email protected] for more information and never forget that libraries do change lives…. even in the cloud! Suzy Lemoine.
