She is traveling around the state with her, “Launch Into Literacy Summer Book Tour” which will feature her classic children’s book, “Mom, There’s a Rooster in the House – The Unforeseen Adventure”! Please spread this good news! Then beginning on Tuesday, June 4th through Thursday, June 6th, Ventriloquist Donna Lavergne will perform at each library in the parish. Informational & Activity programs will be delivered by staff member Madeleine De Francillon with “Discovering our Seed Library”, Evangeline Soil & Water Conservation and Southern University Ag Center. Note: Two of our performers, Mitch Richard & Brii Simmons, are funded in part by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation & Tourism, in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council. Funding has also been provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, a Federal agency.
Registration for Summer Reading will continue through June and July. Calendars are available at the main library and all branch libraries and will be posted on our website. Children are invited to log the number of books they read and those who read at least 10 books will receive a prize each time up to 12 times. When our summer reading program ends, we will look at our top readers and they will be presented with a grand prize! Summer Reading programs aren’t just about receiving prizes but, in fact, it helps children to continue developing their reading and social skills. This is a gentle reminder that parents with children from 0 – 17 are now required by a new law, Act 436, to RE-REGISTER their child (children) to allow or disallow them to have access to books, eBooks and the internet.
Our June “Artist of the Month” is Danita Demoruelle Arnett. Her work is amazing! Please come by the main library to see and enjoy her collection!
