News

Thank you to everybody who attended the groundbreaking this morning (Tues. Aug. 14, 2012) for the new main library in Ville Platte!  We had great attendance and support from the Police Jury, Library Board of Control, City of Ville Platte, Library Staff, Friends of the Library, Food for Thought Book Club, Evangeline Genealogical and Historical Society, Chamber of Commerce, Ville Platte Rotary Club and other organizations, local banks, and many folks from the community!  Thank you all so much!

We especially thank Ronnie Landreneau of Landreneau & Associates, Brodie Ardoin of Ardoin Architecture, Troy Frick and Nicholas Rodriquez of Troy A. Frick (building contractor), Nancy Duplechain of KVPI, the KATC film crew, Steve Hallam of the Ville Platte Gazette, Bobby Dardeau of the Bonnes Nouvelle, and last but not least our wonderful local photographer Mable Foreman.

Additional thanks to Anthony Newman of Bayou State Maintenance for having the grounds looking great, and to Mr. Joey Fontenot for framing and installing our building sign on extremely short notice.  Also, special thanks to Donald Bergeron and the wonderful Police Jury crew who did set up and take down of our tents and chairs, etc.

Finally, very special thanks to all our guest speakers and honored guests, and to Suzy Lemoine, library outreach coordinator, and Paula Lafleur, president of the Friends of the Library.  Without you, this wouldn’t have been possible.

You all helped make this a wonderful event, a pause  to celebrate before the construction begins.

Thank you!

The Friends of the Library will meet Tues. Aug. 14th at 6 pm at the main library.  Everybody is welcome.  The Friends will celebrate the groundbreaking and learn about current Friends projects.   Please come and bring a friend!

The Main Library and branch libraries will be closed Tues. morning, Aug. 14th, due to the ground breaking ceremony for the future building.  The current library will reopen at 12 noon.

Basile, Mamou, and Turkey Creek branch libraries will open at 1.  Pine Prairie branch will be closed at least part of the morning and possibly all morning on Tuesday.  Chataignier will open at its regular time in the afternoon.

You will see us coming in and out of the current main library building, moving chairs, etc. to the ground breaking site.  Please be aware that although staff will be in the building, it is CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC until noon.  Thank you for your understanding.  We hope to see you at the ground breaking ceremony at 10 am.

We’ve scheduled the groundbreaking ceremony for the new main library!  It is Tuesday, Aug. 14, at 10 am.  The site in Ville Platte is the old hospital property on W. Main St., across from Citizens Bank and Mikey’s Donuts.

Everybody is very welcome.  If for any reason the ceremony has to be rescheduled, we will announce the change as soon as possible.

Thank you to everybody who has made this project a reality instead of a dream!
