Upcoming library programs for October 2022: 

We have a new once-a-month program at the main library in Ville Platte for the kids!  On Wednesday, October 5th, our Brilliant Butterflies programs for young children will begin at 4 pm. Please share this good news and encourage kids to come by and be entertained! 

October 18-20, 2022, we are bringing a scholar, Dr. Elista Istre, to the libraries to share her research about the namesake of our parish, Evangeline. Her program is titled, “Evangeline: The Myth and the Maiden”. Dates: 10/18/22 at Ville Platte main @ 10 am then Mamou branch @ 2 pm. 10/19/22 Turkey Creek branch @ 10 am then Pine Prairie branch a@ 2 pm. 10/20/22 Basile Branch @ 10 am then Chataignier branch @ 2p.  Her website is (www.BelleHeritage.com). This program is funded with a grant from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed in the program do not necessarily represent those of the National Endowment for the Humanities.   

October 25-27, 2022, the main library and the Mamou branch library will host the annual Lawyers in Libraries again!  Attorney Allison Vidrine will be at the Ville Platte main library on Tuesday, October 25th from 11 am – 1 pm. On Wednesday, October 26th, Attorney Alex Chapman will be at the main library in Ville Platte from 11 am – 1 pm and in the Mamou area, we have a third attorney, Pamela Hall, who will be in the Mamou branch library on 10/27/22 from 11 am to 1 pm. There are sign-up sheets available now at the main library and the Mamou branch to book your free consult. 

 Facebook is the place to visit for all the current happenings at the main library and all branches. There are so many different programs going on at all of our branches with different dates and times, we encourage our patrons to visit the Facebook page of their favorite library to learn about the unique programs being offered! 

Early Notice: Here are some November 19th Library Fest updates:  New participants this week are: Antique Appraiser Michael Wynne, vendor / quilter Pat Fontenot, cook T’Nay with Ha U Want It , Evangeline Genealogical & Historical Society, Sisters on the Go – Breast Cancer Awareness, will sell handmade items. This is a FREE outdoor event for our patrons to meet new authors and vendors, sample new Food Truck dishes, and to buy Friends of the Library books! Please get the word out that participant forms can be picked up at any library in the parish and by emailing Suzy Lemoine: [email protected] or Lakeishia Ford @ [email protected]. It’s still early, but we’ll begin promoting our participants now.
