At the Library for August 7th

  We are so proud of our readers across the parish who checked out 10,005 books this summer!! Our Summer Reading Wrap Up will be in the August edition of the Bonnes Nouvelles to highlight our top readers at each library, performers, sponsors and the incredible number of books that were checked out this summer! Congratulations! For the kids who visit the Ville Platte Main library during the month of August, they will be able to Adopt-A-Play Pet when they check out 10 books (one pet per kid during the month)! Please share this good news.

      August is FINE FREE month. Return any item in good condition to the main library or any branch and have all fines on the item (s) waived.   We will also take 50% off existing fines and charges for lost/damaged items if the balance is paid in full in one lump sum payment during this period.

      With school starting soon it is important for students of any age to be aware of a few FREE resources that they can access with their library cards. The LearningExpresss library found on our webpage is a resource that can help one study for exams, find out skills needed for a job, or brush up on technology skills. Using Learning Express’s Computer Skills Center, you can learn about computer basics, popular software including Microsoft Office and Adobe products, and basics about the Windows operating system.      Early Notice: October 18-20, 2022, we are bringing a scholar, Dr. Elista Istre, to the libraries to share her research  about the namesake of our parish, Evangeline. Her program is titled, “Evangeline: The Myth and the Maiden”. Details will follow. Her website is (www.BelleHeritage.com). Also, our annual Library Fest is scheduled for Saturday, November 19^th from 8 – 1 pm. This is a FREE outdoor event for our patrons to meet new authors and vendors; sample new Food Truck dishes; and to buy Friends of the Library books!
