So much support for our upcoming library Summer Reading programming around the parish! Here’s another big “thank you” to our newest summer reading program reading incentive sponsors: Lakeview Park & Beach, Lyons Market (aka Piggly Wiggly), Eric Gil Insurance Agency, Inc., Buller Family Dentistry, Paul’s Meat Market, and Peter Strawitz.   Your support is an acknowledgement of the importance of literacy and lifelong learning opportunities that are accessible to all through our public library system.  What’s going on this week at main and all branches are featured on their Facebook pages with the exception of Turkey Creek Branch – but it will be live soon! Here are a few highlights: Basile Branch library will host their “Kids Story Hour- About the Zoo” on Thursday, 4/28/22 @ 10 am.  The Pine Prairie Branch is offers FREE Bingo every Thursday @ 9 am. Also, now on Fridays 9:30 am you can participate in a FREE “Cajun French Course”.  It will run from April through June and covers conversational skills, basic grammar, pronunciation & cultural information. In Ville Platte, the new French table, “Allons Parle en François” organized by staff member Patricia Harris meets on Tuesdays @ 1 pm and is designed for folks who enjoy speaking the language and also for anyone who wants to just listen in. She will also be posting on Facebook a “French Word of the Day” on Monday’s for discussion on Tuesdays. On Saturday, April 23rd, the Evangeline Genealogical and Historical Society will meet @ 9:30 am for their first quarterly meeting of 2022. Their guest speaker is author John Francois. New members are always welcomed. The Mystery Book Club will meet on Wednesday, April 28th @ 10:30 to discuss their book.

 NEW: “Monday Bingo for the Kids” at 4pm at the main library! “Throwback Thursdays” is our way of remembering our rich history with postings on our Facebook and web pages by Jane Vidrine and Tina Messer. This Thursday is a photo of Mrs. Emma Scott Thompson from Bayou Chicot when she was 96 years old (circa 1950) reading one of the 4 books she read weekly! She was the mother of author Mable Thompson.  Keep an eye out for many more interesting memories!

 Early Notice: May 3rd, Ville Platte Main library Books & Beyond Teen program will meet at 4 pm to create Mother’s Day gifts! And on Wednesday, May 4th @ 10 am, we will host a public event to recognize the retirement of our Director, Yvonne Lavergne and welcome our new Director, Dr. William Holmes.
