The Library Board of Directors and the staff wish all of our patrons a speedy recovery after yet another scarry weather event by Hurricane Delta!

Mark your calendar for the main library in Ville Platte’s annual LIBRARY FEST on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 10 am until 2 pm on the grounds of the main library! Social distancing and mask wearing will be included in the planning. Unfortunately, the Friends of the Library will NOT be offering their usual used book sales because we gave all of the inventory away during the recent COVID 19 period. To hold your spot as an author, vendor, crafter, etc., a Participation Form is required. Please pick up your form at any library branch around the parish. The deadline to get your form in is October 30th.    This festival is free for the public and vendors will not be charged to sell or promote their products. I am delighted to share that we will have three state grant-funded performers who will delight kids and adults alike: Storyteller Sylvia Davis, Magician Mitch Richard and Musician/Storyteller Brian Sivils. Additionally, we have invited the awesome antique appraiser, Michael Wynn, to join us again, Vitalant (United Blood Services) will be onsite for blood donors, we have a surprise to share soon from Lt. Governor Nungesser, and KVPI will be live from 10 am – noon! Keep an eye out for updates. Next week I will begin bragging about our authors, vendors, and crafters!

The Basile Branch library will again host its French Coffee Talk on Tuesday, October 13th @ 9:00 am! Please spread the word!! Mask are required for all programming inside of the library.

The Books & Beyond Teen Club will be making Bath Salts on October 22 @ 4 pm in the multipurpose room at the main library in Ville Platte. Masks are required.

The Friends of the Library have donated Kindle Fire Ereading devices to each library around the parish with the goal of making online access to books more available to our patrons. Each branch manager will let their patrons know how they can have access to the Ereader device in their library. We thank the Friends for their continued support!

The Ville Platte main library meeting rooms are opened again but with limited occupancy and a requirement of wearing masks. In our multipurpose room the following groups can begin to meet againThe French Table group meets on Mondays @ 3pm; the Quilters meet on Thursdays at 1 pm; the Crochet group meets on Wednesdays at 4 pm; the Mystery Book Club meets the last Wednesday of the month at 10:30 am. We are so happy to be able to invite these groups back to the way it was before COVID 19!

The staff genuinely appreciates the never-ending understanding, patience and support it continues to receive from all patrons! Please get updates at evangelinelibrary.org or on our Facebook page and continue to request books and other materials by phone or by email at [email protected].  Never forget that libraries do change lives… even through the Cloud! Main library: 337-363-1369.
